Future Visual
Junior Virtual Reality Unity Developer
2016 – 2022
About this role
After graduating with a First-Class Honours degree from Kingston University, I began my professional career as a Junior Developer at Future Visual. The company had reached out to multiple universities across the UK in search of emerging talent in Unity and VR development. With a strong passion for game development, immersive technology, and future-focused interactive experiences, I was immediately drawn to the opportunity. Following a highly competitive interview process involving multiple stages, I was proud to secure a junior role within the team. Working at Future Visual was both inspiring and transformative. It provided me with a clear pathway into the video games and immersive technology industry, reinforcing my belief that with dedication, continuous learning, and perseverance, I could contribute meaningfully to building the future of interactive experiences. During my time there, I refined my technical abilities and adapted my game development expertise to the enterprise programming environment. This involved developing scalable, client-focused Unity VR applications while maintaining high standards of performance, usability, and innovation. I had the privilege of contributing to projects for globally recognised organisations including McDonald’s, the Home Office, Felix & Paul Studios, and IATA, among others. Working with such diverse and high-profile clients demonstrated the versatility of the Unity engine beyond traditional gaming and showcased how immersive technologies can solve real-world business challenges. These experiences significantly strengthened both my technical capabilities and professional confidence, and they shaped my understanding of how game development principles can be applied across industries to create impactful, forward-thinking solutions.
VISIONxR™
VISIONxR™ is our in-house networking solution designed to bridge XR and VR platforms, enabling devices such as Microsoft HoloLens, virtual reality headsets, mobile phones, and tablets to connect to and participate in the same shared Unity experience simultaneously. Within this initiative, I was responsible for supporting new device integration and contributing to the early-stage development of the networking framework. This involved ensuring cross-platform compatibility and helping extend the system’s capability to support additional hardware within a unified multiplayer environment. In accordance with NDA restrictions, I cannot disclose specific implementation details; however, I contributed to research and evaluation of networking technologies to support both real-time synchronised connectivity and live voice communication. This work played a role in strengthening the platform’s scalability, reliability, and cross-device interoperability.
VISIONxR™ x WeavrVR ( Dota 2 VR Experience )
In partnership with the WeaVR team, Future Visual collaborated on an innovative live esports experience that combined elements of VisionXR, WeaVR’s live data technology, and collaboration with Blizzard Entertainment. The project enabled live gameplay from Dota 2 esports events to be recorded, streamed, and experienced in real time by a virtual audience. Through VisionXR, users were able to join the experience simultaneously across VR, mobile, and desktop platforms, interacting within a shared immersive environment while watching the live broadcast. My role focused on real-time feature integration within the Unity environment. I implemented interactive physics-based objects to enhance immersion, developed customisable player adornments to personalise user presence, and integrated live video streaming using AVPro with m3u8 live feed pipelines. This ensured low-latency, cross-platform video playback embedded directly within the VR experience. This project strengthened my experience in real-time systems integration, cross-platform optimisation, and live content delivery within immersive multiplayer environments.
